Creative and innovative water modelling solutions

We build 1D, 2D and 3D computer models that simulate water flows in a range of settings for local authorities, engineering consultancies and private developers.

Reduce flood risk, manage storm and wastewater

Large catchment models

Highly tuned to be fast, accurate, flexible and ready for real-world use, our large-scale hydraulic and hydrological models factor in important phenomena for each catchment, including coastal, rainfall and groundwater effects.

We work with you to create datasets and base layers and then calibrate, validate, and verify your urban or rural model. This turns the model into a resource that your team can confidently use in settings well beyond the current project scope.

An iterative approach means results are delivered early and evolve with your emerging needs, not locked behind traditional waterfall processes.

Fine-scale models

Using high-resolution models, we can simulate fine-scale hydraulic effects within and around overland flowpath or floodplain obstacles, structures and open channels. This lets us show how minor obstacles and infrastructure affect frequent flooding, even if the return period of the flow is uncertain.

With model results presented meaningfully and usefully, you can use them to enhance engineering assessments and support design decisions.

Hydrological modelling

With refined hydrological modelling, you can better understand your complex water systems for safer, more resilient communities. We’ve worked with New Zealand’s diverse landscapes, complex coastal boundaries and unique geology, as well as the local effects of climate change, and we adapt our approach to suit your project. We have expertise in flood frequency analysis, lumped hydrological models, distributed hydrology and the latest in specialised software.

Methodology development

Models that are fit for use and retain value long-term, start with robust and transparent model development and management. To deliver that work collaboratively, we draw on the expertise and experience of our clients and wide-ranging stakeholders.

Our expertise is built over a decade spent developing modelling best practice. Our directors were key contributors to the Department of Internal Affairs’ National Stormwater Modelling Guide and other regional and city council guidelines.

Modelling structures

When 1D or 2D models can’t capture the full picture, we use Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to simulate complex, rapidly-varying flow in extraordinary detail. Used strategically, CFD modelling brings precision to projects where accuracy matters most: wastewater treatment plant splitters, stormwater inlets bridge piers, offshore infrastructure, wave environments and more.

To ensure your results are scientifically sound and practical to apply, we verify every model against published research and fundamental hydraulic principles. Then, with 3D visualisations and animation, we make the invisible visible, so you can more easily analyse, optimise, and communicate the results.

Project support

We share our expertise, knowledge and resources with peers and client teams to peer review and validate models and their results. Our clients and partners also benefit from technical scoping and assistance, plan-change-mediation representation, model purpose and scoping statements, training workshops, technical assistance and advice for modelling strategies and programmes.

Our strong relationships with geotechnical, civil and environmental engineers mean we can offer wrap-around support and advice on even the most complex projects.

Model support tooling

Our custom-made tools supercharge our work and yours. We develop targeted scripts and spreadsheets to streamline complex, time-consuming modelling tasks, with our technical expertise and years spent balancing project-specific needs with company-wide workflow improvement. The tools are designed for specific modelling challenges, helping teams accelerate workflows and improve model outputs.
